KFL Sunday Lunch

We had a fantastic afternoon at Marriott Worsley for the KFL Sunday Lunch! It was a pleasure to welcome transplant and dialysis patients, their families, nursing staff, renal consultants, and KFL Trustees. Over 150 supporters joined us for an afternoon filled with fundraising, delicious food, and insights into KFL’s work and future goals.

Professor Sandip Mitra kicked off the event, highlighting Manchester’s leading role in renal research and its positive impact on patients in the North West. KFL is committed to continuing this legacy.

Next, KFL Chair of Trustees, Mr. Afshin Tavakoli, echoed Sandip’s sentiments on the importance of research. He thanked attendees who undertook remarkable fundraising challenges over the past year and led a toast to all transplant patients and donors. Among the attendees were patients who had been transplanted just six months ago and one celebrating their 45th kidney-versary!

Richard Cort, a Sunday Lunch guest, surprised us by raising a toast to all the clinical professionals who work tirelessly to improve the lives of kidney patients and their families.

We then enjoyed a perfect Sunday roast before hearing from Dr. Andy Nixon and Dr. Ajay Dhaygude, the newest members of the KFL Trustee board. Both from the Renal team at Preston, they shared how KFL’s support in the past motivates them to now support and promote the charity. More details on Andy’s latest project will be in our 2025 newsletter.

We then heard from  Andy and Ajay’s colleague at Preston, Dr Lauren Floyd, who spoke about some of her research into vasculitis and also a patient information event held earlier this year & for which KFL provided some funding & received excellent feedback from those who attended.

Professor Smeeta Sinha did a fabulous job of introducing Professor Darren Green & his talk around GFR (something will undoubtedly become a game changer for renal patients) wowed everyone in the room.

It was a truly wonderful afternoon with our wonderful supporters, and based on the positive feedback, we plan to host this event again next year. Stay tuned for the 2025 date!
