Golf Club Captain’s Charity of the Year
One of the most inspiring stories comes from Peter and Hazel Harrison-Johnson. We first met Peter in 2019, when he made the extraordinary decision to become an altruistic kidney donor for his old school friend, Howard. Thanks to Peter’s selfless gift, Howard continues to thrive today—a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact of organ donation. Building on this commitment to helping others, Peter chose Kidneys for Life as his Captain’s Charity during his year as Club Captain at Chorlton-cum-Hardy Golf Club. With unwavering support from Hazel and the entire club community, they transformed their captaincy year into a fundraising success story. Through a wide range of activities – including golf days, evening socials, dinners, raffles, ladies’ fun competitions, and donation initiatives – the club created a welcoming, inclusive environment where everyone could get involved. The enthusiasm and generosity shown by members and supporters alike was truly inspiring. We are thrilled to share that their efforts raised an incredible £9,000 over the year. When we visited the club to receive the cheque, it was a genuine joy to meet so many dedicated individuals who had worked tirelessly to make this achievement possible. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Peter, Hazel, and everyone at the club for their commitment and generosity.
Nineteenth Hole Charity Golf Day
This spirit of giving continues to shine through events like the recent Charity Golf Day, where players came together for a fantastic day of sport and fundraising. With raffle prizes generously donated and strong participation on the course, the event has already raised over £600. The energy, teamwork, and shared purpose on the day demonstrated just how impactful these events can be.
Healey Family Blackley Golf Club Charity Day
We are thrilled to celebrate the success of the recent Healey Family Golf Day, which took place at Blackley Golf Club last week raising over £5,000 and smashing the total raised at their 2025 event. This outstanding achievement is a testament to the family’s dedication and the generosity of everyone who took part and supported the day. For the Healey family, their connection to Kidneys for Life is deeply personal. In 1995, Caron, received the life-changing gift of a kidney transplant at Manchester Royal Infirmary. That single act of generosity transformed their lives—bringing more time, more memories, and the chance to grow together as a family. Today, Caron is celebrating her 31st transplant anniversary alongside her 45th wedding anniversary—milestones made possible by the compassion of an organ donor and their family.
Their story is a powerful reminder of why fundraising matters. Every event, every donation, and every supporter contributes to advancing treatment, supporting patients, and ultimately saving lives.
Golf days and Captain’s Charity partnerships are a fantastic way to bring people together for a cause that truly matters. Whether through friendly competition, social events, or creative fundraising ideas, every effort makes a difference. If you’re considering a charity for your captaincy year or planning a golf day, we would love you to support Kidneys for Life.
Together, we can continue to create life-changing moments – both on and off the course.
